ABOUT THE CLUB
Kats Netball club was first developed in 1999 by Kim Watson with two teams Kats and Kittens in the first division in the Colchester Netball league. When it was first formed the club only had 16 members, and now has over 300 members aged from 5 years to over 70.
There are a range of abilities, from beginner to performance netball, with weekly training and competitive opportunities provided so that participants can progress as far as they aspire in the sport of netball. We like to think we are the most successful netball club in the Colchester area.

The club now has ten teams playing in the Colchester Adult League, which includes youth players from Year 10 and above also. The youth section has gone from strength to strength with around 20 teams that play in the Colchester Youth Netball League and 4 teams in the Chelmsford Junior League. We also have both an U16 and U14 team in the East Region Youth League. Over the year’s players have been selected to attend both the Regional and County academies, and some involved in the Regional League and Superleague franchises.

There are many dedicated volunteers involved in the club which include coaches, umpires, team managers, committee members to general helpers, who assist with leagues, tournaments, social events and fund-raising activities to name a few. As well as having qualified club coaches from Level 1 to Level 3 the club continually recruits, helps train and mentor new coaches through their qualification pathway, which also includes young leaders who are invaluable in assisting the coaches. A number of new coaches are currently on their coaching qualification journey. We also have a number of qualified umpires ranging from Into Officiating, C Award to B Award. We also offer the opportunity to all adults and young people over 13 years to become qualified umpires and support them through their training pathway with mentoring and opportunities to practice, starting in the youth league and progressing onto the adult league. Again, we have a number of trainee umpires ready to take their assessment or attending their first training course, and practicing in club sessions and leagues.
There are three members of the club holding key roles on the Colchester League Committee, two on the East Essex County Committee and also one who coaches at the County Player Development Programme and is part of the Saracens Mavericks Player Development Group

The club has the Silver CAP’s award, and in 2015 the club won the England Netball Regional Goalden Globe award for Outstanding Netball Club of the Year and were shortlisted for this award in 2020 at the East Regional round
The aim of the club is to make a difference to both young people and adult’s lives, by helping to improve, not just their physical health, but mental health, confidence and self-esteem also. It prides itself on being a friendly, welcoming hub, joining together for the love of netball, and to give everyone a chance to belong to something and help them achieve whatever they aspire to.
